I did my basic training with JD in 1962 both in Upper Barracsk (as it was then) and at Bushfield.  Whenever I saw JD after that it was always a pleasant and memorable occasion.  My thoughts are with his kin.

...I shall always remember him, I was a young sprog out of training and whilst on patrol in Borneo and passing a jungle clearing came upon plants bearing juicy red fruits, I stupidly asked him what they were, he said they were very sweet, try one!!! there was no water to quell the burning rage in my throat for some time!!
