This was posted on the Notice board a few weeks ago, I thought it might be a nice tribute to Dave who is on the final Re-Org

I took the liberty of changing some of the words I hope no one minds

The Rifleman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you Green Jacket,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The Rifleman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.

Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Green Jacket waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Rifleman,
You’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets;
You’ve done your time in Hell."

Many thanks to everyone who turned out for dave laurensons funeral, his family cannot beleive how many ex jackets turned up for his final parade, you made a lot of people happy at this sad time.its true we are a family and proud of it too. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL.

Very sad news to here about Dave! Im Happy to say that me & Tina knew Dave for Quite some time, and were proud to of had Dave at our wedding as BEST MAN.Lost touch over the years but never forgoten.

i visited this page for the first time & discovered that 2 of my ex army pals had very sadly passed away dave & al. although its been 22 years since i saw either of them i am still totally shocked as you imagine them to be as you last saw them i remember dave with very fond memories as we were very close & always out in minden on the ale dave was the last person i spoke to when i left clifton barracks to head off back home to peterborough its a very sad loss & my heart goes out to his family although i dont know them im sure they will always have good memories of such a fine man.nick martin A coy (who cares who wins)1980-1984
