 General Dick Worsley died on 23 February 2013 aged 89.

 Dick Worsley was born 29 May 1923 at Ballywater, County Down, Ireland and educated at Radley College and was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade in 1942.World War II service included service with 2 RB in the Middle East and in Italy and 8 RB in Normandy and then with 1 RB in the Malayan Emergency in 1948.

 He commanded The Royals from1963-65 at a time when he was one of a crop of six Rifle Brigade officers all of whom commanded non Green Jackets battalions/regiments at the same time.

 Senior appointments included Commander of 7th Armoured Brigade in Soltau, Germany from 1965-67 and Chief of StaffFar East Land Forces from 1969-71, GOC 3rd Division in Bulford Wilts from 1972-74, Vice QMG 1974-76, Commander 1st (British) Corps in Bielefeld, Germany from 1976-78 and Quartermaster-General from 1979-82; he retired in 1982.

 He was Chairman of the Rifle Brigade Club 1986-93.

 After retiring from the Army he was Chairman of Electra Optical Division Pilkington Bros. In retirement his vineyard at his home near Reading gave him a great deal of joy. He was a Cavalry & Guards Club Member from 1963 a Committee Member from 1979 - a Trustee from 1990 to 2003 and Vice President of the Club from 2003 until 2007.

 In 1958 he married Sarah Mitchell and they went on to have one son Lt Col Henry Worsley MBE, a serving officer in The Rifles and a past Commanding Officer of 2 RGJ and one daughter.

 In 1980 he married Caroline, Duchess of Fife (nee The Hon. Caroline Cecily Dewar).

 Funeral Arrangements: Private family cremation. Thanksgiving Service to be notified.

I was upset to read of this loss to the Regiment and to his son and family.  I had the pleasure to be present in his company once and found him to be exceptionally easy going, just like his son.

So saddened to hear this news. Nearly 90 years old, he had a very good innings. Our thoughts are wth you Henry and the rest of the family. RIP

on Monday 15th April 2013 at 3pm.
