Lt Col FHG Higgins DOB: 19.3.1914 Fergus Higgins died on the morning of 9 April 2013 aged 99. He was commissioned on 1 February 1934 into the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (43rd& 52nd) at the same time as JAJ Read (later Gen Sir Antony) [LG 2 Feb 1934] Only son of Brigadier General CG Higgins, CMG, DSO, DL, also of the Regiment 2 Lt Oxf Bucks 1Feb 1934 Capt 1 Feb 1942 Major 1 Feb 1947 Lt Col 7 Dec 1958 Served as Coy Comd 2nd Nigeria Regt 1939-1942 including Abyssinia Campaign. Staff College 1943. DAA&QMG 7 Inf Bde 1943/44 Wounded Oct 1943 and Feb 1944. Coy Comd 3 Monmouths 1944/45 in NW Europe. US Staff College 1945 2IC 1 Oxf Bucks 1946/47 Staff posts 1947/1951 OC Depot Oxf Bucks, Cowley Barracks, Oxford 1951/53 2IC 1 Oxf Bucks 1954 GSO1 Liaison to Belgian Forces Germany 1954/58 Logistic Staff SHAPE 1959/61 AQMG Northern Command 1961/64 Camp Commandant RMCS Shrivenham 1964/69 Retired May1969 He was a keen horseman, polo player and shot. He owned several horses during his lifetime and rode some of them to win races before and after the war. He was a member of the RGJ Officers Club. Memeorial Service arrangements of Lt Col FHG Higgins late 43rd & 52nd)	Permalink Closed

Funeral Arrangements for Lieutenant Colonel FHG Higgins, late The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (43rd& 52nd) and Royal Green Jackets. A private creamation, family only, will be held on 23rd April. A Memorial Service will take place at 12 noon on Friday 17th May at St John The Baptist Church, Kingston Lisle, OX12 9QH,to which his friends will be welcome. Those attending are invited to a buffet lunch at The Old Stables which occasion would have been a celebration of his 99th birthday. The family would like those intending to come to advise Annabel "as Fergus would be most unimpressed if supplies ran out" !
