Saddened to hear of 'Scoops' Passing, my sincerest condolences to his Family. A very colourful man in the Mess who had time for everybody, he will be sadly missed.

'Scoops' no need to rush now, Plenty of time for a 'swift half' in the FRV. RIP

RIP Mucker.  I remember being introduced into the Battalion in Celle by Scoop way back in 1973 and all the help and guidance he gave especially in the Auld Staddt.  He will be missed by all.cry

So sad to hear about Scoop.

He was a soft spoken chap and could always be found with camera in hand, snapping everything to do with daily life in the Battalion.

My thoughts are with his family.

Dear Marion,

Please accept our sincere condolences at this very sad time.... I was really shocked when Jake informed me yesterday.

Scoop RIP my friend, I have fond memories of the good times we shared together in 1-3 and 5 RGJ and as Chalkie mentioned you have now plenty of time to enjoy your Swift Half at the happy hours with the lads.

Another chosen man gone to soon. Nice man , a weird sense of humour though. RIP Scoop.

Will not be at the funeral but I'm sure your farewell will be memorable.

I will raise a glass of port in your honour.

Till we meet again Mucker {not to soon}

I knew Joe [Scoop] Roberts as he was known in 1 RGJ over many years when we served together at Tidworth [my first memories of him], Celle West Germany [then], Dover, Hong Kong and Hounslow, West London where I last served with him.   Scoop worked directly for me as Chief Clerk 1 RGJ in Dover and Hong Kong.   My memories of him are as vivid now as they were all those years ago.  Joe [Scoop] was unusual in many ways, shy, very bright, thoughtful always courteous and considerate of others.   Scoop was meticulous in his clerical work where nothing was beyond him and he excelled in the more difficult and complex task.   But, above all else he was a fine man of great character, wonderful companion and friend, full of dry humour and wit.   Not interested in the greasy pole of promotion and ambition he simply wanted to give his best and enjoy what he did, rare qualities indeed.   He was for many years the backbone of the Orderly Room and clerical establishment of 1 RGJ.  I am very saddened at writing these words, he was a good friend and I will always remember him.

I send my sincere condolences to Marion and the family, be proud of him, he was a fine man, solder and a proper gentlemanBon Voyage Scoop! and as they say in Spain, Adios Amigo, Hasta Luego!!        RIP
