It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Peter Kelly, former WO 2 Peter Kelly at approx 2pm local time in Bonn, Germany.  Peter drifted off very peacefully this afternoon after being in a coma caused by a massive heart attack.

I spoke with Eva before she visited Peter at 2pm today and again at 20.10pm, she is comforted by her son and family in Germany.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when the legalities are resolved for moving Peter from to Germany to England.

***

The Cremation of Peter was carried out in Germany, a service to celebrate his life will be held in the Garrison Church, Imber Road, Warminster, Wiltshire, on Friday May 2nd, at 14:00 hours, and afterwards in the WOs and Sgts Mess, Land Warfare Centre, formally The School of Infantry.

Eva and family would welcome support on this sad occasion.

Such sad news.  Peter was always good, he liked to laugh wouldn't hurt a fly, such a great man; he had the patience of a saint especially when he took over from Lenny Weyman as my driving instructor.  Peter in his spare time would take me out driving in Dhekelia, Cyprus in 1976 he was so calm and relaxing but he took me to my test in Larnaca.  The QTO ripped in to him when Peter was asked who drove the land rover from the base; Peter said he did and the QTO said "why didn't you notice there is no electrics or speedo.  Quick as a flash he said " Hang on a minute Colour (it was Ron Hart, MTWO) the vehicle is one of yours in the MT and your MT Sjt said this is the one the MTWO has set aside for testing."  Ron Hart went red and said"OK Hughes, get in and off yo can keep to 30mph as I judge it you can carry on with your test!"  Needless to say I carried on with my test and thankfully passed down to Lenny and dear Peter.

May God Bless you Peter, you can now relax in the FRV with your Muckers, thanks for your friendship, leadership and unadulterated kindness.

Eva and family, my thoughts are with you, please relax as best as you can; speak soon.

I remember on a BATUS Tour walking around the golf course with Pete and some others and he was telling us about the time he got the tummy bug in Kenya, we could not move and the tears were rolling down our eyes, he kept reapeating elements of the story and showed us his Kenya Belly Shuffle at every hole.  Later having a beer, Peter was telling us that the story was great, but it had put us off our game and that was how he won!  Legend and will be missed by all that new and loved him

From Dave Murray

i Joined the depot in April 1978 scared and apprehensive at what was to come as a new recruit away from home the first time, i was fortunate enough to have Cpl Pete Kelly as my first section commander and remember fondly to this day how he taught us recruits about them strange items called puttees and how to wear them correctly.

A proud small in stature, big in guts and character irishman, who installed confidence in me to mould me in to a man, respected and fair and firm when needed,

On passing out parade i appreciated his guidance and training for my past 20 weeks transforming me in to a rifleman, ready to meet the real world of soldiering.

Over the next 22 years of my career  our paths crossed again on various postings and his promotions, I was always proud to say when any one asked me 'who was your training screw" Pete Kelly I would proudly say.

And i would never forget when he sneaked us over to the Westgate pub  as recruits to have a beer with him.

RIP Pete and condolences to your family

Swift & Bold  (your proud recruit)

bleh.gifYes Peters time in Kenya didn't go without a hitch! When he returned from Kenya there were no pants left for me to wash. Someone had forgotten to sterilise the water, which resulted in many a embarrassing moment for my dear husband. His art for putting an extra spin on when describing things have always been very entertaining. One of the most endearing things about him.........I miss him so much!
