Brian "Ginge" Ginley ex 2RGJ passed away on Sunday 10th February 2013. Our heartfelt thoughts go out to Barbara , Stephen & Emma who he loved and adored. Brian was a real Character being the Scouser he was he will & friend always be remembered and he was a great Battle Bud to me. God Bless
Sorry to hear about ginger, we served together in A-Coy 2RGJ in ballykelly, we had some great laughs, sadly we never met up again i rejoined 3RGJ and lost touch, god bless ginger, deepest sympathy to the family.
Brian Ginley was in the next senior platoon to us at the depot. Being Scousers we had already introduced ourselves to each other but our paths never crossed socially due to the busy training shedule. Then we both found out that we had been drawn against each other in the novices boxing. The first round commenced with us both dancing about laughing at each other. The ref called us both together and told us he was about to disqualify both of us and it would be a big disgrace, our records would forever show it and we may not pass out of training etc. etc. On the word 'Box' we both went for each other as novices do. Just on the end of the first round he caught me with a big right hook but the bell went and I staggered back to my corner - saved by the bell. It was a great shot and I was out on my feet.
I can't really remember the rest of the fight but I do remember the entire depot being on its feet as we slugged it out. Rifleman Ginley got best loser but if it wasn't for the bell he would have won. He certainly packed a punch and they just kept on coming.
We were both still seeing stars when we met up later on in the Bakers to laugh about it all and sink a few beers together.
I'd only seen Ginge once since he left the battalion in about 1976 or thereabouts, and that was as I was leaving Davies Street after a Reunion and he and Piggy Farrell were pouring in through the front door, several hours too late and three sheets to the wind, having come all the way from Liverpool! Sorry to hear of his passing, he was a great guy aand a wonderful character. My condolences to family and friends.
While both serving in the Regiment our paths never crossed until I Brian joined the Military Guard Force in Copthorne Barracks Shrewsbury where I was still serving. Having read the comments on Brian to date they echo my thoughts exactly. Brian was simply a great guy and I feel privalged to have known him.
My sincere condolences to Brain's family and friends.
Good night Ginge. Our paths crossed briefley in 72/73 while in A COY.

Sorry to see that Ginge has left us. Coming from London I stuck out like a sore thum among all the scoucers in A Coy, Grahame Antly, Bob Vanson to name just two in my section. I distinctly remember my 1st day joining the company in the city at Waterloo car park and being told by Ginge to change the channel on the telly in the cookhouse. As I reached up a plate wissed past my ear as smashing on the wall followed by "touch that telly again and your dead you nig", turning I was faced with a very angry Piggy Farrell who was watching the Liverpool match and Ginge who was in hysterics ........... I still owe you one Ginge so stay on the ball when I get to the FRV.
