Very shocked and saddened at death of General Jones.
I have great memories of him as D Company 2i/c in Berlin in 1966. I also played rugby with him in the Battalion team. He was of course later, CO of 1RGJ when we were in Dover in 1975.
I can remember him ejecting me from the Officers Mess, after the Sjts Mess annual visit for Xmas drinks. I was the last to leave and he wished to speak with all the officers. He just grinned at me and said, 'Wells, get out!'
He was a larger than life character and always seemed to be upbeat and full of energy.
A great Greenjacket and a great Officer. Sadly missed.

Very sorry to hear this sad news, I worked in his department in the MOD main building DGTA & Org formerly ASD1, when he was a Major General. As soon as he found out I was formerly 1 RGJ, he walked over to me and said we must talk..

And talk we did, one lunchtime during a staff officers leaving drinks party we stood together for 45 minutes, discussing at length 1RGJ's UN tour of Cyprus. Both he and I didn't have to move anywhere, as drinks and sandwiches were brought over in floods by "Brown Nosing" Major's. one of whom was a Para! General Jones was a great character, a very nice bloke, and a champion of the Green Jacket ethos.

Sad to hear of the sad loss of Gen Sir E Jones. I can remember when He paid a visit to 1 RGJ Osnabruk 87 and Charlie Vyvan was CO and there was the Sounding Retreat and when He turned round to the CO and said I am proud to take the salute as it will always be My Bn. Was His initials CEW as I am wondering if He started as a Young Pln Commander with 3 RGJ.

Sorry to hear about the pasing of Gen Jones. Always remember him from Dover, what a very good officer and CO. Who was it that saluted him in his staff car in Dunganon VCP? (Bill) I can still see the pile of sandbags that our section got for that one. Another very fine officer gone from the family.

I am sad to hear of the passing of a great Greenjacket officer. He really was a Rifleman's officer. Nothing petty about him and knew the Rifleman's way.
I was in London one day about 4 yrs ago and he spotted me in the street and bawled my name. 'Jimmy Matthews' he shouted across the road. It must have been 20yrs since I had seen him and we had a good little chat. Amazing man.

I remember being so proud to have been selected to be part of a photograph in Celle when every rank of the then four battalions was represented, with every rank up to Field Marshall also represented with the Queen sat in the centre. General Sir Edward Jones was there and we all mingled later for tea and sandwiches. General Jones was talking about what he remembered of battalion life as a young Captain, and his stories were brilliant and inspiring. I can only imagine what those that served with him will remember of him, but he will be missed by all that knew him. Rest in Peace Sir.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Gen Jones. I remember him as Adjutant 1 Green Jackets in Penang in 1964. A great officer, will be sadly missed. Sincere condolences to his family. RIP
