Even though I did not know him personally, I do feel a great loss for you.
It is a shame that his illness escalated to the point he could not travel, and we had to cancel the parade a couple of weeks ago...
I am glad I spoke to you in the week and you were mentally prepared for the worst. You acted as a true and loyal greenjacket and your dad, I'm sure, was very proud of you.
This is sad news, another true rfn and Character of the regiment has been taken away from us, I first met Del when I joined the battalion. he was a true Greenjacket in every sense of the word. Rest in peace Del your duty done, stand easy.,and we'll catch up in the final rv. To all of your family andf friends I send my deepest sympathy to you all. Celer Et Audax
A sad day indeed. You wouldn't find a nicer bloke than Del; even when he was taking your money at doms or cards, he did it with a smile. Never once saw him cross. Every memory I have of him seems to be one of him smiling.
He had intelligence and charm in abundance, dry of wit and a real pleasure to be around, this kind man certainly brightened up my life.
Rest easy Del, you were a man worth copying - and that's how I will remember you.
Kath, Del Jr and Stacey and families, my thoughts are with you. You know my feelings about the 'Old Man' more than anyone. If there is anything I can do, just shout. Will have a few sherberts on his behalf tonight.....
Another sad day and another sad chapter for when one of our fellow I con have been taken. Del you always had a good hear to listen to our moans and groans and also to give advice. RIP Old Buddy and no doubt you will start a domino school up again like you used to do in the Cpls Mess Berlin. My sincere condolences to your family. God Bless
What a sad day indeed, David Askew summed up my thoughts. Del was a man I knew, worked with and respected. A good man and the world is poorer for his passing. My condolence to Del Jr and family. Rest In Peace Del.
Just Returned from holiday and one of the first things I do is check the Green Jacket Site. It is really very sad news to hear about the death of Derek. I think that all of us who new and worked with him would agree with everything Dave Askew has said. It was a pleasure to have met him, worked with him and played with him. He was a real gent.
Ann, my sons Alan and Daniel pass our best onto Kath and the rest of the family.
