Had the pleasure of knowing Dave from serving together as young soldiers in the sixtys up to me being posted from 2 RGJ in 1983. The last time we spoke was last May, in Davies Street, during the KRRC annual reunion. Dave was always a very unassuming indavidual but one of the most professional soldiers I had the pleasure of serving with. He was always totaly loyal to his soldies and held in respected by all ranks in 2 RGJ.
I remember Dave from our time in the A/Tanks 2 RGJ, he was a thoroughly professional SNCO and the kind of bloke who always made time for us Rfn. One of the few who supported and encouraged me to get started on my NCO cadre, a great laugh yet a hard task master when needed. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace mate, My sincere condolences to your family.
Had the great pleasure of knowing Dave, completing the NCO Cadre in Gibralter together. On behalf of the Riflemens Club (Cyprus Branch) and both Sue & Myself our thoughts & condolences are sent to the family

**reposting as last message didnt seem to show up, apologies if you get the message twice**
Dad....
All, Sean Cormack here. Son of.
I just wanted to take time to thank all those names that have taken the time out to put a message on here during this difficult time. Rest assured we have read them all. It means a lot to us, and it also cheers me up to realise my memory still has some life in it as I recognise a lot of the names from my childhood.
Dad had been battling cancer since the summer, but sadly for us it took him far too quickly, although we do take some solace in the fact that he passed with peace and dignity, with no pain, which was his wish.
Me, Tracey and Mum are looking after each other as we always have, perhaps just holding a little tighter at the moment.
It seems unbelievable that he is no longer here, the world for me is now a stranger (and a little quieter) place. I keep expecting him to send me a text, walk through the door or to tell me another fairly lengthy story about his time with any one of you fellas. He left the army a while back, but will forever be one of your own.
Dad didnt want flowers at the funeral (he was in charge right to the end, this was one of the strict instructions given!!), so apart from a few from Me, Mum and Tracey it was his wish, if you feel you are able,. to have the money that you would have spent on flowers given to the hospice where he spent his final days.
Its a truly wonderful place with amazing staff and Dad was made to feel very comfortable, even though he was constatly taking the pi** out of them all.
Hearse leaving Mum and Dads house at 12.30 (if you want Mum's home address contact me on the details below and I'll get them to you)
Service at Eltham Crematorium - North Chapel at 1.15pm
Following this we'll be going to the Millenium Suite at Charlton Athletic Football Club to drink a few shandies in his honour (as Dad was a Chelsea fan he'll have to forgive me for that one)
Sincerely, thankyou for all of your messages. If you cant make it, raise a glass in his honour wherever you may be.
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and condolences.
I am his eldest sister and yes he was one in a million. A true professional soldier, just like his dad before him. It was such a shock to lose Dave so early, right up to the end he was amazing, an inspiration to us all. He faced his illness with such bravery and fortitude, an absolute credit to his family.
We all have such happy memories of our times with him, no one quite like Dave as you have all said.
Our love and thoughts are with his dear wife Mabel, two wonderful children Sean, Tracey and his little grandson Harrison. He adored you all.
Sleep tight my dearest brother we will miss you forever
Peggy, Roy, Anthony, Tanya, Rosalie and baby William.
God Bless to a gentleman who will always be remembered for being a good friend to all those who knew him, especially when needed. Forever in our memories, all my love to Mabel, Sean and Tracey.

I just heard about your Dad. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. I met him perhaps the first day we formed up as a Section of 4 Pl. at Winchester in March 1965. I think he was the youngest of us...and I was only just turned 18! I seem to recall us being together also in 14 Pl once we got to the Bn in Penang - in fact I have a photo somewhere that includes the first two RGJ casualties: Rfn Kelway and Webster, both fine lads. Perhaps you have a copy?
I last saw your Dad a few years ago on a jaunt in Steibis, Bavaria. We climbed the Big Mountain with Davey Grant, another old and bold GJ.
Your Dad was a great character; full of life and never in the dumps for long. He was a good soldier back in the Borneo days and I can see he remained one. I'm sure you're proud of him and have every right to be so. Please pass on my commiserations to your mother.
I Frist meet Dave back in the 60's during the Borneo day's and we hit it off straight away, both being from South London. It was not untill the 80's that Dave and I worked together again in the Close Observation Platoon. A great Rifleman and always the professional R.I.P. mate
The I company 2RGJ nominal roll is getting smaller and each loss is felt. Dave would say none too queitly "if you cannot march and you cannot shoot you are of no use become a cook just get away from me." A true proffessional soldier, a very good leader and a brilliant freind and terribly missed. My condolences to Mabel and the family and condolences from the Wiltshire Branch RGJRA or mini 2RGJ.
