Belated Notification

24182073 L/Cpl Anthony Robert Sinclair, ex 3RGJ 1969-1973

Tony died suddenly aged 63 on Monday August 16 2010. He had been living in Canada since the mid 1970s.

I understand from his wife that he suffered a heart attack whilst on a fishing trip and died later at Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Trent Hills, Ontario.

Tony served in 3RGJ in BAOR, Cyprus and Belfast,  He left when the battalion was at Shoeburyness in 1973, the year before I joined.

If anyone would like to contact Tonys widow  to express their condolences, please feel free to contact me and Ill let you have her contact details.

Tony was my cousin and it was he who encouraged me to join 3RGJ.

So, if anyone remembers serving with Tony, Id be very grateful of any memories you feel able to share, especially of the Belfast tour of 23 August to 11 December 1972

Gerry,

I remember Tony. We first met when we were in Cyprus, I was with the MT out there and I am sure he was also, I seem to remember his best mate was a guy called Roy Bryant, Roy and myself went onto join "R"Coy, not sure where Tony went but we met up again when posted to shoeburyness, I left in early 1973.

I remember him as being a very smart Green Jacket, always very well turned out. When he heard I was getting out he asked if he could have my combat gear, as it was well worn and faded [ the new ones looked awful and his were wearing out from all that washing and ironing]

Sometime we reminisce and think of the old days, and I have to say that he and Roy and many of the others that we served together with pop into my mind.

Really sorry to hear of his passing, another one gone to the Riflemans rest.

Please pass on my condolences to his family.

Steve.

Hi Steve, Thanks for sharing those memories. I'll pass your kind condolences on to his widow, Sandra. At the time you knew him he would have been married to his first wife Anna. She's Swiss and moved back to Switzerland from Canada when they divorced around 1985. They had two daughters, Corrina and Michelle who also live in Switzerland. Can you remember any circumstances around Tony's tour to Belfast in 1972? It seems he came back to UK before the tour ended and he shortly afterwards bought himself out. Thanks again, Gerry

Gerry hi again.

I remember the tour in 1972, we were based at the back of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Tony did indeed return early as I remember him just before he went and after that as I returned early also with the advance party. The reason for his return was due to his wife being unwell at the time. Hope this helps a little more.

Steve.
