Good bye Fred sleep well.
A true RIFLEMAN till the end.
See you in the FRV Fred.
Stand tall high on that HILL
My thoughts are with your loved ones.
SWIFT & BOLD
Very sad to hear that Fred has passed away, he was a real (old) 2RGJ character, a legend among "Mortar-men" (for a variety of reasons!) having spent virtually his entire service in the platoon, and one of the most entertaining and funny guys I've ever known. He was a great practical joker, raconteur, singer and a lover of Compo Chicken Curry (as his crew on Medicine Man learnt over 4 weeks on the Canadian prairies after he'd swapped all their rations for it!) Fred was great company, tremendous fun (and occasionally infuriating) to talk to and drink with, and a rifleman to his fingertips. We won't see his like again. Sincere condolences to Maria and all the family.

Very sorry to hear the sad news of Fred. I think most people have said what I wanted to say. A 'scouse' to his fingertips he was a real old soldier and great fun. Nick.....my condolences to you and the family.

We are both deeply saddened by this news Fred has always been a great friend and comrade in many ventures over many years and we think "Paddy" Maher has said it all and said it right.
All at Wiltshire branch wish Fred's family our heart felt condolences and best wishes.
Always cheerful, always friendly, always helpful, always there, nothing was too much trouble for him, a proud family man, a proud Rfn, it was an honour to have served with him J-D v M
Many of Freds old muckers have been on the phone this weekend all of whom echo the same sentiment. He was a typical Rifleman, nothing was too much trouble for him and his scousers sense of humour shone through, never more so I am sure than when he was facing his maker. We will all miss him when we gather in future. Sincere Condolences to his family from all members of KRRC/2G/2RGJ Association.
It is lovely to read all the kind words and memories placed on here about my Dad. He can now look after Julie Ann our big sister who past away in April of this year after her long battle with cancer.
I'm organising the Funeral and Wake for my Dad so if you would like to attend and haven't already made contact with me,please email me on nick.cowan3@btopenworld.com . If you are coming by car please send your Make, Model, Colour and Registration Number.
As I am sure you are aware we have a lot to organise for the day and your cooperation in this would be greatly apprecaited.
Yours
Nick Cowan

RE: Death of Fred Cowan - KRRC & 2RGJ - With furneral details
Brenda and I were so sorry to hear of Fred's death. We served in Support Coy together for many years and always got on well together, even though I was A/Tks and Fred was a "Goody". RIP old mate.
Our deepest condolences to you and your family Marie. Pat and Brenda.
I am very saddened to hear of Freds move to the FRV if you were going to be in Freds company you were certain to have a good laugh. Great man my condolences to Marie and family sorry for not being at the funeral but I am working abroad at the moment
Fred was an absolute stalwart for me in 2RGJ and my short time in the Mortar Pl but importantly it was not just me he looked after it was anyone that was new to the Mortar Pl. Fred and Marie also gave me guidance and superb advice over child care issues when I was getting divorced. So very sorry.
For the first time I'm stunned and lost for words.
God Bless Fred, sincerest condolences to Marie and all the Cowan 'Family' - Blood and Regimental.
Dear All. The following page has been set up for my Dad. This is the memorial book of rememberance so please add your thoughts and photos as we will be keeping this to reflect back on.
