RE: Death of Bernie Burke Ex RB. 3RGJ With Funeral Arrangments
I knew Barney well, he worked with me in A coy in Celle when I was signals rep, along with the late and much missed Dickie Richardson.. Barney, along with Arthur Banks, was one of the coy hq drivers and helped out in the signal stores too. He was always cheerful - sometimes irritatingly so, especially on Soltau when it was cold, often wet and frequently miserable. We would be knackered and ready to throw our hands in but Barney would produce from God knows where a hot drink and a sarnie. And that big grin of his. A good man, a genuine rifleman and someone I miss but hope to meet again at the final RV,
Saddened to hear of the passing away of Barney, Infectious good humour under almost any circumstance made him an asset wherever he went. With him, Swivel Plymsol and Snooksy in the same Platoon you saw the true spirit of "A Rifleman" in action. Although it took the concept of maintaining dicipline into new heights, I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Barney Burke and I passed through training together at Bushfield in 1963. A very funny guy and a first rate Rifleman who kept me and many others laughing through the darker days of basic training.
I am greatly saddened by his passing and very sorry to have lost touch with him in recent years. My sincere condolences to his family.
sorry to hear of Barnies passing . He was agreat guy we served together in A company and i was speaking to him a year ago after the poppy parade . A great character sadly missed
