Born on 14 Mar 1928 in Middlesex and educated at Bedford School and studied Law at Cambridge.
He was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade on 3 Dec 1947 (L.G. Sup 30 Jan 1948 page 733) and was attached to the KRRC in Palestine where he was awarded a MID (L.G. 7 Jan 1949 page 131) in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Palestine during the period 27 Mar to 30 June 1948.
He relinquished his commission on 9 Nov 1951 on appointment to the RAFVR (L.G. Sup 6 May 1959 page 2434) with whom he trained as a pilot in the Cambridge UOTC Air Sqn but never took up an appointment in the RAF.
He practised as a Solicitor in London where he became president of the Holborn Law Society. He wrote and co-authored a number of books connected with conveyancing.
Subsequently he was the Clerk of The Grocers Company where he forged that Livery Companys link with 4(V) RGJ which has been carried forward to The Rifles.
He was a he was a life member of the Rifle Brigade Club.
Maj Nick Chavasse MBE, a former serving officer in the RGJ, is his son.
