Brother Rifleman it is with deep regret that I inform you that Paul is now in St Josephs Hospice Thornton Ince Road L23 4UP on Merseyside. He has cancer , he was expected to last until Crimbo but an ulcer in his neck has burst and the Doctor has told his wife Cynthia {last night} Paul could start making his last patrol over the weekend. A group of us visited Paul last night {Jackie Colbert/ Dave Swords} armed with a CD player and regimental music. At Paul's request we picked three tunes to be played at the cremation. It was clear to see on Paul's face when listening to the CD he still loves our regiment and the time spent in it.

I wil give an update after my next visit PM on Friday 29/11/13.

Fellow Riflemen,

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Paul passed away at 1600hrs yesterday Sunday 1st December. His wife Cynthia and son Mark were at his side. We believe he hung on until his son arrived . Mark works in the South West of England. Funeral arrangments will be published on this site when I am informed of them.

Out of pain and at peace.

God bless you Stumpy my old fellow Junior Rifleman.

Thanks for this sad update Ginger.  Please give him my best and tell him my family and I will keep him in our thoughts over the weekend here in New Zealand.

We went to see Paul again today. The Doctors have increased his medication and put him to bed. He can't speak now and really didn't know we where there. I passed on the messages given to me by Martin Lile and David Askew . Cynthia thanks you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.

I don't thing it will be long now.

Paul's Funeral will be at Thornton Crematorium Merseyside L23 1TP.

It will be this Thursday 5th December at 1400hrs

Paul's son Mark is flying to America on Sunday so the funeral director's have managed to make the arrangements in quick time.

My sincere condolences to Pauls Family at this time Stumpy was a good friend lots of good advice and pointers when we served together, another one of us bites the dust stand easy mate job done.I woud just like to add to all our brother Royal Green Jackets  we  have lost gone but not forgotten.

Funny we never served together in the Green Jackets but met when we both joined 238 squadron RCT, TA in the late 70's Bootle. We had many a good weekend showing then how to shoot and teaching them field craft skills. He was a loyal and long serving member of the NW branch and will be missed.

Condolences to Cynthia and Mark from myself and all from the NW Branch.

I knew Paul mainly from us being Cpls together in A Coy in the early 1970,s. A good lad see you soon (not too soon hopefully)
