Shocked and saddened to hear george humphrey has passed away, although i did not serve with or have the privilidge of serving under george,we spent many moments sharing memories of the many great friends and fellow riflemen we both knew,it has always amazed me how guys like george could give so much and ask for so little in return, but then i suppose, isnt that one of the characteristics of the regiment george served so well,my thoughts and those of my family are with norma and family at this time.
I never got to meet George but though he was very ill himself, he took the time to send me a get well card a few weeks ago. From what I hear this was typical of the man.

I never had a lot of dealings with George but those that I did will always be fondly remembered, as has been said many times a sad loss for the regiment but much more so for his family, i know that the regiment will always be there for them should they need us.
The passing of George has so saddened me, when George joind the 3rd he came to 11 plt C Coy. It was a great platoon we were all good mates, so much that when we have events we have a seperate photo taken of 11plt and now we have lost our George i feel badly affected Knowing he wont be with us. He was a tough sod and you could,nt hold him back from wanting to learn. When we were learning Morse Code he excelled in that so much that he could strap the key board to his thigh and virtually tap out while walking. He was very tough mentally. If you were going into a dodgy situation George would be pushing right up along side of you. He was full of spirit, i know the whole of 11 plt of his early days will miss him greatly
I knew and loved George for over 40 years. I spent a wonderful day with him just a couple of weeks ago. We laughed and joked the whole day. We spoke of older, better times and not once, did he show any sign of self pity. When I left him in the evening he was smiling broadly and a real joy to behold. This terrible thing that eventually took him from us took nothing from him. He was strong, joyous, generous and loving until the end and that is how I shall remember him. Waving from his door, laughing.
I served with George in Recce Platoon in Berlin in 1975/6. George was a true professional and always up for a laugh. I enjoyed working with George. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to his wife Norma and his family.
georges passing has realy left me sadend .a fighter till the end ,as milo and jimmy have already said he was a tough little sod.
i was so glad that we met again at the borneo night ,we drank a bit to much and talked about happy days long ago in 11plt in borneo ,and him on kemo as well a true rfn to the last.we were and still are a tight bunch, who grew up together in the jungle we had a trust in each other that i have not had since then and our george was a big part of that
it has been a privalige to have a known george .the world will be a sadder place without him.
he will always remain in my thoughts and my heart.
So very sad to hear that another good soldier has joined his comrades. George was a class act never to be forgotten, my thoughts are with Norma and the family. Rest well my friend you will be sadley missed. God bless.
George was my neighbour in Winchester in 1971 and again in Berlin in 1975. You couldn't wish for a better person. My deepest condolences to Norma and his family.
I did not know you personally George, but new your brother. You will be missed by all that walked with you, beside you, that served within the brotherhood.
