Roger "Rolo" Mahoney sadly died on 12 June following a short illness. He served with 1GJ/1RGJ in the Far East and Berlin. He was 61. Funeral details are not yet known.
So very sad to hear of Rogers death. 'Rolo and myself enlisted in the army on the same day and met at Oxford railway station on the 7th April 1962, on our way to our Boys Service unit in North Wales. We spent the next year in the same platoon and during that time, I managed to persuade him to re-badge from the Royal Army Service Corps to 1 Green Jackets. He then left Rhyl a few months before me and I caught up with him in Penang in early 1964. The Battalion left Malaya and went to Berlin in early 1965 and Rolo bought himself out of the army in 1966 I think, but remained in Berlin in civvy street. That was the last I saw of him.
I shall never forget Rolo and our time in together in Rhyl. My thoughts are with his family. I will be at the Crematorium Thursday if that is ok with Rolo's family.
