Joe died just before midnight on 23 Jan. He had been ill for sometime. I got to know Joe quite well when we worked together as prison officers at Chelmsford. He had so many stories to tell of his time as a rifleman. He finished his time as a WO2 with 1 RGJ. As soon as I have the details of his funeral I will post it here.
So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I was a young nig in 1RGJ when he was CSM, and remember him as a great character. My thoughts are with Joe's family at this sad time.
I am really sorry to hear of the passing of Joe - I first came across him as a C/Sgt in 1GJ in Penang and he was one of the nicest men you would wish to meet. I remember going round to his Married Quarter in Penang as a very young Rifleman for drinks with him and his wife. A good man who will be remembered for being just that.
He was very kind to me when in Berlin, and later in Armagh with B Coy, 1RGJ when I worked at the Police Station with him. He was a gentleman of the old school.
