Please pass my sincere condolences to his family, I won't be able to make the funeral but as Ginger Dixon has already said give him a good ole Geordie send off, but please wait until i've had a chance to buy a load of shares in Scottish & Newcastle brewery....
A very sad occassion to hear about Davey Raper, one of a kind and kind he certainly was and very, very funny. I remember him and I in Celle on rear party in '73, sitting in the back of an ambulance escorting somebody (a giant of a man) to Munster Hospital. Both 17 but Davey was a lot bigger than I was and he said don't worry if he regains consciousness, I'll jump on him and you just hit him with the pick axe handle. Guess what, yes this person come round and Davey and I nearly sh_t ourselves but this guy (who shall remain nameless) just started talking to us and asking about some of the senior lads in the Bn. Turned out this guy was and is still a good man but we were told some terrifying stories about him. However, on our return to Celle I said to Davey, "I thought you were going to jump on him", he replied "Getaway'n'sh_te, de ya see the size wahim an ee waz just sittin up man". Oh Davey, you bring back some good memories.
As others have said, I am also committed on Monday. My sincere condolences to his family and I know, the calibre of the guys sending him off Davey will have a good'un.
Sorry to hear about the passing of a good friend and solider will be missed greatly in my section through Cyprus and N I in the 70's always kept moral up with his Geordie humor will have a beer for him regards to evertbody attending sorry for not being able to attend
