Lcpl Robert ( Choggie ) Coleman. Choggie, I'll never forget when you used to have a chicken leg with the tendons hanging out of the top, and walking up to someone and asking could you stir their tea with the leg. No one had a chance to refuse as you managed stir it anyway, even though it was green and horrible. You was a great bloke, missed by a lot of Rilfemen. God bless you Choggie.

Chogs is now at the great LUP in the sky waiting for the rest of us to join him and Simmo and all the others when we can reform the Greenjackets(again) and run the green machine from on high!! Gods Mafia!! A privilage to have known you mate. Dave M
Choggie- you will be missed by many, I for one was lucky enough to be in the same Platoon as you- anti tanks and then to serve at the Depot as the same time as you- my family still talk about how you stole the show at my daughters christening in the Cpls Mess in winchester- then there are the depot runs with the recruits- beer cans in your pouches. Sandy shaw- PT Corps WO2 asked Choggie why he hadn't turned up for work on a Wednesday? - Choggie relied- I thought it was Saturday! Rossy
So many very fitting tributes to Choggie. I was also very fortunate to have known Choggie. I have extremely clear memories of standing in front of Long Block, Pen Bks, at early o'clock, 'bricking it', waiting for him to appear having been woken from a drunken slumber by one of us NIGs. He would turn up in rag order, stinking of p*#*, wearing a once white PTI vest and beast us like you couldn't believe. The same question being muttered over and over again " how the f#*# does he do it"? That was in 84. I was then extremely priviledged to work in the gym with Choggie from 91 - 93 at the new Bks. Choggie showed us 'pups' a great deal during that period. It was a real pleasure not only to have known him but to have had the priviledge of working with him. Please take care old mate, you are a true legend.
Another great Rfn to the parade Sq up in the sky. Like every one has said CHOGGIE you were and are a top bloke. Those days back in Penn Bks when you woukld berast us to an inch of our lives and then drink us to an inch of drowning in the mess are days to be cherished. God bless mate and as you said only a couple of years ago at Winnie, F*ck this i'm gonna get pissed!! RIP Choggie.
As a Light Infantryman i met many people during my 9 year service, in 1991 i was posted to the Light Division depo as a PTI at the tender age of 22 and wet under the collar i was met by the formidable Choggie (i hate the light infantry) Colman, although two stones lighter and a foot shorter this man had a presence that till this day i have never again experienced, this man never took shortcuts and always taught with a passion never before seen, he drank as we all know but never allowed it to affect the professionalism he displayed everyday, all i remember is two years laughing with this fella! until this day one thing sticks in my mind, the day i left the army from the depot Choggie held out his hand and said Radz for a f**king arfer you are a top geezer.
This has stayed with me and is something i will never forget, Choggie you are and will always be a legend. I hope you now have the peace and quite you so deserve.
REST IN PEACE - Your one Light Infantry Friend - Radz Radford
Well us over here would like to say a fare well to choggie i new him in 80 in winchester, he could go on the raz and still do a 8 mile run the next day he was admidred by a lot of nigs as he called us well R.I.P try green job from a few rifleman over here in Gibraltar.
The latest on Choggie is.The police have failed to find a NOK.The Council and police will now search his bunk to try and find a will (stack of chance),if that fails then the Council will bury him in Morn Hill.I have told them that he would have prefered to be cremated and the Riflemens Aid Society would pay the difference. They will check the legality of this and let me know. They have assured me that I will get 8 to 10 days notice before anything happens. We have already got the Flag, bugler and CD lined up, I will stick it on this telly thingy as I know more.
I only had the privilege to know you for a short time but you are one of a kind. I remember the fish tank you had at winchester and the use of the word 'toilets' still puts a smile on my face..Thanks for all the hard work you did to turn out a lot of fighting fit rifleman..R.I.P
