It is with a very heavy heart I sadly annouce my Fathers death at 0100 hrs today. As previously posted Dad was suffering from cancer and died peacefully.
His service record states "He was smart and alert, entirely trustworthy and had a sense of loyalty" I can only agree these sentiments entirely and know that we as a family will miss him very much.
I would like to thank the Royal Hospital Chelsea for there caring support from day one till the end.
I am really very sorry to hear of the death of Bernie. I knew him for over 40 years first with the 1st Bn Green Jackets and secondly from his time living in Green Jacket Close. He was a lovely man, always willing to help out anyway he could. I really did respect him and he will be missed by me.
My sincere sympathies and condolences to his family at this sad time! RIP Mucker!
It was a pleasure and a privilege to of known and served with Bernie he was a proper Rifleman and I am saddened to hear of his death. My sincere condolences to his lads and all his family.
So very sad to hear of Bernie's passing. When I joined the 1st Bn in Penang as a young nig, Bernie was Recce Pln Serjeant, and already a legend. He was tough as old boots but retained a gentle, calming air about him that inspired others. He was a 'yardstick' for all of us young soldiers to aspire to. A legend departs. I am so glad I had the opportunity to shake his hand at the July reunion.
My thoughts are with his family at this time, particularly Bernie Jnr and Mick.
My deeepest sympathy and condolences at this sad time to all of Bernies family and friends. I didn't know him personally, but to be a chelsea Pensioner holds a certain respect. R.I.P Bernie get them all fell in on that big square in the sky. Malcolm Don Donnison
