Cpl Patrick (Ted) Heslin, late Ox & Bucks LI 1958-64 and re-enlisted into 1RGJ 1971-85. sadly died recently. His funeral took place in late July. His son Kevin asked for this notice to be published.
I am truely saddened to hear that another great Green Jacket has departed.
I first met Ted when I moved over to 1RGJ in 1970 but I did not really get to know him until I was posted to D Coy 4vRGJ in Aylesbury. He looked after the Bletchley Drill Hall and all things MT for me. Had it not been for his age when he rejoined I always thought he could have gone a long way up the promotion ladder.
He was a good, dedicated soldier and one of the few that I really missed on my return to 1RGJ. His humour was more than a little unusual even by GJ standards and made more so by his ability to keep a totally straight face throughout.
My thoughts and condolences are with his family at this sad time.
I knew Ted from the Malaya days and always got on with him very well. So very sad to hear of his 'passing' and my thoughts and condolences are with his family at this time. RIP Ted!
Sad to hear Ted has passed on to his last muster, those of us who served in Celle with Ted will always remember him during river crossing training , he was always up for a good time. Ted RIP
I was very sadden to hear of the passing of Ted Heslin. Like Ken I first met Ted when I joined 1RGJ in 1970 in Celle, joining a different battalion is difficult at the best of times, but Teds kind friendship made the change and adjustment that much easier which I will always be gratful for. I too have fond memories of Ted during the two years I worked closely with him in Celle, especially during the floatation training in Hamelin. As Ken said Ted had a unique sense of humour, he could turn a sad situation into a jovel comment and remain straight faced while all around were in tears of laughter. Ted was a Stawart of a man, one that will always be remembered by this Green Jacket and many others too. God Bless Ted My condolences to Ted's family.
We are so sorry to hear about Ted. We have fond memories of Ted, Shirley and the children when we were in Hong Kong and Winchester. I personally remember Ted when we were at Trenchard Kaserne, Celle when he was in the MT and latterly Girwood Park, Belfast when he was MT rep for B.coy.
