I have been informed that Pete Sherman 1 RGJ died on about the 26 January in Liskard Hospital of a tumour.  Pete served with the Regiment as I recall from Warminster 1960 until Dover 1977, I think he had previous service with the Royal Signals.  Funeral arrangements are as follows, 1000 hrs 12 February 2009 at Weston Mill Cremetorium, Plymouth.

Many fond memories of Pete who was one of the 1st Battalion's great characters.
Pete was a Corporal or Serjeant in B Company in Malaya when I was a young nig Rifleman in 7 Pln. Throughout the next 20 years I served alongside him in one or two Companies, and came to know him as a kindly man with a great sense of humour.
His passing is a sad loss to the 1st Bn and our Green Jacket Regiment.

My thoughts are with Pete's family at this time.

I remember Pete very well our paths crossed a few times from Borneo to Dover. On the Bn arrival in Dover in 1977 Pete took over C Company stores for me on the advance party. On taking over the stores from him i noticed a fair few deficiencies ! Pete,s answer was "sorry Bri I've been rubber dicked".The Quartermasters face was a picture, it still makes me laugh to this day.

Rest in peace Pete it was nice knowing you. Condolences to Pete's family.

What a smashing bloke Pete Sherman was.  A real funny infectious laugh.  Always smiling.  Great company.  When I first went into the Sgt's mess he took me under his wing.  Made sure I never ballsed up on the so called etiquette.  He really was a diamond geezer. Sincere condolences to his family.

Pete's passing is very sad indeed. He was my next door neighbour in married quaters in Penang, Malaya. Both our families became very friendly, we spent many happy evenings there. I always found Pete to be a very loyal and faithful friend gone but not forgotten.

My deepest condolences to Denise, John and family. God Bless Pete may you rest in peace.

I remember Pete as my platoon Sjt in A Coy at the Infantry Junior Leaders Bn at Oswestry way back in 65 to early 66.... then back in 1RGJ at the end of the 60's.

A nice man who treated Junior Leaders with respect and humour.  Rare for that place.
