The passing of Johnno is another sad loss especially as Johnno was a young man. I remember Johnno going to the Mortar Pl and meeting him. Both of us coming from Liverpool we had a few things in common but he was obviously a far a more well balanced person.Especially, when one looks around at Support Company of the mid 70s onwards when we were younger. He was also a person who did not bow down to intimidation and would stand his ground whether it was to somebody in 'officialdom' (using their rank in an unwarranted manner) or to another soldier on the beer.
I have seen him on a number of occasions with the most recent being at Bert Henshaw's Passing and Celebration. Johnno spoke very highly of Bert but the overarching memory was Johnno was speaking highly of most people. This was a measure of the man he always saw the best in people. A very sad loss but a gain to the Final RV where one day I hope we will all meet up.
I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Johnno, he was one of my lads for a long time in the mortar platoon. We kept in touch and was always sending me funny e-mails, the last one I recieved only a few weeks ago.
I am not in the UK at the moment and only today been able to get on the site for a little over two weeks, Sorry I couldn't see you off mate but I shall raid the mini-bar in a while. Rest in peace bud you were one of lifes good eggs.
My sincere condolences to the family of a fine man.
