The deaths of these brave young men is a tragic loss to their families, their friends and their comrades. The Regiment has been through this multiple loss several times in the last 30 years. It's resolve was not shaken then. Nor will it be shaken now. It will come back stronger and ever more eager to even the score.
I write this with a very saddened heart at the tragic loss of all those very young Rfn and a very experienced Nco. I gave them a minutes silence at about 4.30pm and when I saw the 6.30pm news I was moved with tears when the people crowd who were paying their respects were throwing flowers at the cortege.
On behalf of the Royal Irish Regimental Association CGC. May I express our deep regret at the loss of our fellow soldiers from 2 the Rifles, our thoughts are with their fellow Riflemen currently on ops, the familes and their friends.
Over the 30 plus years of trouble in Northern Ireland many of us within the UDR CGC and R Irish CGC served with soldiers from the Regiment and we know how much pain this great loss of life will have on the Regimental family.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them

I am saddened by the loss of those young brave warriors of green.

Truly shocked and saddened by the news of so many brother riflemen killed not forgetting there comrades left behind with some horrific injuries. I stand amazed and humbled at those young mens bravery going in not once but twice to get there fallen comrades out knowing and seeing what had just happened. They truly are Swift and Bold. My sincere condolences to all the family and friends of those brave riflemen
A slightly adapted poem for the Brave boys of Rifle Green...
Do not stand at their graves and weep; They are not there. they do not sleep. They are the thousand winds that blow. They are the diamond glints on snow. They are the sunlight on ripened grain. They are the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush They are the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. They are the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at their graves and cry; They are not there. they will not die.
If I should die think only this of me That theres some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed A dust whom England bore shaped made aware Gave once her flowers to love her ways to roam \a body of Englands breathing English air Washed by the rivers blest by suns of home.
It is with very heavy heart that I write this. So many good young Riflemen lost so tragically! My Sincere Condolences go to the Family and Friends of them all!
These words we are writing on these pages are written with true feeling and sentiment, but also with pride. How sad it is to hear that so many ,so young ,have made the ultimate sacrifice in doing their duty.
Rest in Peace brother RFN you will never be forgottten.
