It is with regret and sadness that I must inform you of the death of Cyril William Vernon who served with E & G Company`s 8 RB 1944-45. Bill died in hospital on Friday 2 July with his family around him.

He recalled with fondness his mates and officers, in particular 'Trip' Kingsmill and 'Chalky' White and Majors Rowan and Bell.  Bill did not make much of his service in his civvy life, he was a modest man and we only really got to hear about Normandy, Holland and Germany in his later years, in particular when we went with him back to the battlefields in 2004/5.

The funeral service will be held at Worthing Crematorium, West Sussex on Wednesday, 7 July at 1.00am.  Should anyone from the regimental family wish to attend, they can contact Alex Robins on 01761 472034.
