Sleep tight Colin you were the best. You are & always will be a legend. My thoughts are with your loved ones. Swift & Bold See you in the FRV mate. High on that hill.
Another great Rifleman and guy to go ! As many have said, a legend in his own time. A Character to beat all characters. So many things that could and will be said about Colin a book could be written to his time. He will be forever missed.

So much has been said about Colin that I can add very little. He was a great friend, a trusted colleague and one of the funniest men to work with. The memories of tricks that were played, Sgt's Mess kitchens that were invaded and singing around the piano will stay with me always. Having lost his son only recently our deepest sympathies go to Billie. 'Biffo' will long be remembered.
I am Totally shocked by the grave news, Colin was, and always will be Remembered as the number one in all Ceremonies, for the Light Divsion!, i send my Condolencies to Bille and the Family,
to look for the bench mark, for a bugle major, colin was that man i am proud to have known colin,my condolences to billy and his family and friends high on the hill colin
Billie, Reading all the words of condolienses I hope, will give you some idea of how we all feel about 'Drumy'. Colin was an icon, he had the bearing and ability that all Greenjackets Bugle Majors' tried to emulate, and what a standard he set. 'We will Remember him' Sheila and I send our heartfelt condolenses to you, and the family. RIP Colin, no more parades today!
When i travel North on Thursday to say goodby to Colin.I will be thinking of all the good times we all had as a Regiment and as the Band and Bugles. Colin will be missed by Family and friends from all over the globe. We will all miss his wonderful sense of humour. Sincere condolences to Billie and Family
Just viewed a clip of the 1985 Royal Tournament and was sad to read about Max Bygraves death.. Even more sadder was hearing about Colin Green's passing. A true gent and as per the last posting a "Light Division Legend"
Nosher led the final public Massed Bands & Bugles of The Light Division performance (by this time he was BM of 7thLI, and Senior BM of the LI despite by TA) at the closing night of the 1994 Royal Tournament; Basil Reitz the commentator made sure everyone knew that from 1 August (two days' time), the division would be left with just one Band - fine that it was and still today as The Rifles. Reitz also mentioned a few band members who were retiring that night, one of which was Nosher after 36 years combined KRRC/RGJ (regular) and LI(TA) service.
So emotions were high in the audience, and after the accelerando to 'Zorba The Greek' I saw the first and only time I'd seen a standing ovation in Earl's Court. Don't know if this had happened on previous performances (certainly not the one I was at near the start of the show's run), but anyway the boys (marching with the Band, Pipes & Drums of the Brigade of Gurkhas) did an encore. Plus after doing 200 paces per minute to that, Nosher stormed his 'Green Machine' away at well over 140ppm playing 'Light Division' and 'Black Bear'. The current Band of The Rifles website mentions the '220ppm' moment when HM The Queen was there - this wasn't the last night (despite what the website says) but it was obvious Nosher wasn't going to retire on a low!
If that wasn't enough, the honour of 'last off the pitch' after the finale fell again the best band in the world, playing 'Light Infantry', 'Royal Green Jackets' and 'Yo Nepali' - the audience, normally more interested in heading for the tube at 2230 on a Saturday night, pretty much all stayed on their feet as they marched out. Lump in the throat job...and as you can see, I can still remember it 16 years later.
I is a sad day I have just heard about Colins passing he was a great Bm we were living in members at Winchester during the late 70s had many great living in members do's which we organised that went well into Sunday morning a man never to be forgotten in the Greenjackets RIP Colin
I ran 5 times at the Royal Tournament for the Portsmouth Field Gun Crew. One of my most abiding moments at Earls Court was listening and watching the band of the Light Division and their incredible marching speed, one year i was there, they were even running and playing bugles, we were all impressed. We used to like to think Field Gun were the stars of the show, we were wrong!!!! I don't think i ever met Colin Green but felt i knew him, if that makes sense? Best wishes and sincere sympathy to the family from all Pompey Field Gunners.
Would you that happen to the same Tom Goudie former band member of 3 Royal Green Jackets?....This is Mike Purcell (former bugler) 3 RGJ. What a loss of Colin Green "Nosher" with his famous non regulation sideburns made him a celebrity and a ledgend for us young buglers, I understand that a Larry Larard (who was a young fellow with us guys in Winchester) preceded "Nosher" but I suppose has well sice retired as we were all there in around "71" or there abouts, would be amazing to here from any of the guys. A hereo of ous at that time was "Scotty Mures" from 2nd Batallion, but having seen Scott on a TV programme many years later and night club owner made it clear that there were politics going on, which in many way ruined a young mans career due to his colour.
I went on to become a very successful business man and built a vast international organisation, I have recently considered recontacting The Rifles /The Royal Green Jackets with the aim of helping ex service men back into work and providing opportunities, I would be delighted to hear from anyone from my era.....Email: mikepurcell3@yahoo.co.uk
Greetings Philip, I like you was also 3 RGJ, started as a boy soldier in "71" at the tender age of 15 1/2 would very much enjoy hearing back from you mikepurcell3@yahoo.co.uk
Could that possibly be me old mate Pat Mannion from ex 3RGJ even when we started our bugling careers in Winchester in "71" or there abouts, with our old mate Larry Larard going on to do "Nosher`s" job, lad, you blew a fine bugle, i hope that we can get together one of these days and catch up....mikepurcell3@yahoo.co.uk
