A very sad day. Dougie was one of those characters who was larger than life and the best CSM I ever had the pleasure to serve with. Who in B Coy will forget opting to see Doug or go in front of the OC for punishment!!! Off to that final RV mate.......my thoughts are with your family at this time

Dougie served with the KRRC/2GJ/2RGJ from 1964 until 1986 and latterly with 4RGJ where he was loved and respected by all his TA boys. Details of his funeral will be posted here once known.
I served with Dougie as a young Riflman in Penang / Borneo / Germany and have known him for over 40 years. He was a good Rifleman and a Green Jacket always. He will be greatly missed in the Green Jacket world, it was a privilege to have known and served with you mate.

I was so sad to hear of Dougie's death. Dougie was my b company CSM in Crossmaglen, South Armagh and in Middletown in North Armagh. He was the best CSM that I ever met in the Royal Green Jackets. He was humourous, a rifleman's rifleman. He was the best of the best. My condolences to his family and friends, as somebody else said, he was a star.

My sincerest condolances to Dougie's Family and close friends at this time on their sad loss. I too met Dougie for the first time when I served with 4RGJ C Coy in London and Dougie was a PSAO with F Coy. Wonderful character and a true Green Jacket with a wicked sense of humour. RIP Dougie. Remember him making me so welcome to B Coy 2RGJ together with the Redding brothers!!, he was just like your Dad and always made you laugh, he chased Laszlo Nagy around Middletown one day and would have killed him if he caught him, he was a legend.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Douggie Kearl,He was a true Rifleman.
He helped me a lot when I was a gobby Lance jack,and I have only fond memories of him.
No doubt he will already have 'sorted out'a few things with Peter on the gate.

I served as signals cpl with Bcoy 2RGJ in XMG and spent a lot of time with Dougie mostly in the OPS room,he was a top bloke and a great CSM who always put the men first and would go out of his way to make the life of every rifleman as good as was possibble in a grot hole like XMG would allow. I wish i could have known him longer but the memories i have of him are only good ones.RIP

I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of my sister Vanessa and myself to say a huge thankyou to all those who attended my fathers funeral yesterday. It was heart warming to see so many friends, and old and bold rifleman in attendance who had travelled from afar to say their farewells. Yor kind words and tributes helped us in part to deal with this sad occassion. So from one still serving Green Jacket to you all - Thankyou.
