It is with great sadness that I announce that Bill Lendrum, formerly Rifle Brigade and RGJ died peacefully in hospital at 20:40 hrs on 9th March 2011.

His family were with him at the time

Please direct condolences to Mrs V Lendrum at

Tel: 01843 826205

Funeral arrangements are as follows

Wednesday the 23rd of March at 12:40 hrs.

Venue;

Thanet Crematorium

Manston Road

Margate

Directions:

For anyone coming down the M2;

Follow the M2 until it ends and it will then be the A299.

Continue on the A299 heading towards Margate/ Ramsgate/ Manston Airport.
You will finally (about 20 miles) come to a round-a-bout and you want to go straight over towards Ramsgate/ Minster/ Manston Airport.

Continue on this road to the next round-a-bout and take the second exit towards Ramsgate/ Minster/ Manston Airport.

At the next round-a-bout take the first exit and after a few hundred metres you will come to another round-a-bout and you want to go right to Manston.(minster road)

In a hundred yards take the second exit at the round-a-bout towards manston.(old minster road) (you will see the runway on your right hand side)

In about a mile you will come to a junction. go straight across and past the spitfire museum on your right and the barracks on your left.

Continue on this road for a couple of miles and the crematorium will be on the right hand side. (about 500 yds before you get to the next junction).

There is parking for about 40 cars at the crematorium.

Bill requested only family flowers and that donations should be made to the Demelza Hospice Care for children and The Rifles Care for Casualties Fund

I believe that there will be a donation box at the crematorium for this.

Bill Lendrum formerly (and very proudly 3RGJ)

Thank You All!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the responses that we have had in regards to my fathers death on the 9th of March. All of the comments and words of support were a great comfort to myself, my brother Tony and my mother Val.
Over the past few months i have come to really appreciate what it must be like to belong to a 'family' with such strong and proud traditions.

My father was always very proud to have served in the Royal Green Jackets and i have come to realise that the family feeling lasts so much longer than the uniform you have all worn. I will personally remember the kind words and actions from everyone and words can never thank everyone enough.

The funeral was held on the 23rd of March and was a very emotional and proud occassion. I would however like to pay a special thanks to Bill Bingham, Pete Mansfield, Pete Hall and Jim Browning. They added that extra special touch with their 'regimental tribute' to my father.

I would like to add that my father requested only family flowers for the funeral and asked that donations were made to his two favourite charities; The Rifles Benevolent Fund and Demelza charity for children, we raised £320 which i will divide into those two worthy charities.

Once again thankyou to everyone, too many to mention, but you will all be in our families hearts for ever more.

Many Regards

Mark Lendrum

BILLY, WHAT A FIGHT YOU PUT UP IN TRUE RIFLEMANLIKE STYLE. ALL WERE AMAZED, AND THE DOCTORS AND HOSPITAL STAFF DUMBFOUNDED - BUT THEN, THEY DIDN'T KNOW YOU !

UNFORTUNATELY THE BATTLE BECAME YOUR 'RETREAT TO CORUNNA', BUT YOU GAVE 'EM A RUN FOR THE MONEY.

I REMEMBER TAKING YOU ON PATROL WITH MY PLATOON IN BELFAST, OUT OF NORTH HOWARD STREET MILL, AROUND THE STREETS OF THE LOWER SHANKHILL ROAD WHERE YOU SPENT MUCH OF YOUR BOYHOOD, AND PASSING YOUR OLD HOUSE ON FOURTH STREET.
(Y'ALL DIDN'T KNOW THAT BILLY WAS A ONE-TIME BELFAST RESIDENT!!!)

IT'S ALL OVER NOW BILLY - STAND EASY - FALL OUT.

VAL, YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS.
JOHNNY Mc & ANNE McMULLAN.
