Death of former Sgt Derek W. Van Arkadie KRRC 24 June 2011

22434640 Sgt Derek W. Van Arkadie died peacefully on the night of 24 June. He was in Queen's Hospital in Burton-on-Trent being treated for serious and only recently diagnosed heart problems.

He was very proud of his service in  2 KRRC from 1951/54 and had fond memories of the regiment.

He was a very active member of the local community in Alrewas in Staffordshire and particularly in the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) where he was an active volunteer and Vice Chair of the Friends of the NMA.  Details of his funeral will be posted here once known.

I live in Burton, was at the arboretum last Sunday and had no idea.  Condolences to family and friends, I will do my very best to attend the funeral on behalf of the regiment.
