Mick was so in love with his Angel Liz his wife and she is an angel to have put up with him
Mick was also a grade one mucker to all that knew him
He made me laugh, he made the section and company an platoon laugh , hell he made the battalion laugh and everyone that had contact with him
There was nothing that would get Micky down in the dumps
There are countless stories about Mick as a young Rifleman
We shared some great times and some sad times as we all have over the years
He told me when he was diagnosed with cancer he was going home with Liz to chill out andthink about the consequences and what it would mean to them ( I would be crying ) he said that they bought a Chinese takeaway and some fortune cookies, when he read the messages on the cookie one of them statedyou will have a full and happy life, as he told me this he was laughing ( I was secretly crying for him)
This was typical of Micky
I remember sharing a room with Mick in Ballykinler in 1986 his section were attacked by the IRA with a deadly IED that killed one of Micks rifleman and injured some more patrol members
I believe he should have been awarded some sort of recognition for his leadership of that incident but this was not to be the case.
This incident had come back to haunt Micky and was eventually helped over the years by combat stress an organisation he loved and appreciated to help him over his dark moments.
Micky was a proud rifleman loved the regiment and I hope an Angel is now looking after him
His mind at peace and his body not suffering any pain
It was a privilege and honour to count you as one of my greatest friends
Very sorry to hear the news of Mick passing to the FRV but now he is amongst 'The Family' probably laughing and giggling at past escapades with Bert Henshaw, et al. God Bless Mick and sincere condolences to your wife and family.
Mick was a friend for many years, his laugh infectious and his practical jokes legendary in the platoon. Had a good chat with him not that long ago when he was told of his cancer. Stunned that he has gone. My heartfelt sympathy to Liz and family.
For your sence of humour you were a legend. And rightly so.
We all lost a little bit of you when you lost Dave Mully that bad day in Fermanagh.
Pain free, trauma free. Bless you mate, good luck on your next journey.
So upset to hear the very sad news of Mick's passing. Any passing is sad but at such a young age must be devastating for his immediate family and for all of us, members of his second family. Many many memories I'm sure will be told of Mick's career in the old 1RGJ. All tell of his sense of humour and his ability to make us laugh.
I was minded of a story the other day: Mick was one of my platoon sergeants in Osnatraz and Pete Collins and I where walking around the accomodation when we came upon Mick asleep on a bed. The rest of his platoon had gone on a run. When I quetioned him his answer which I cannot remember made Pete and I roll up in laughter.
Mick till we meet again and you remind me of that answer RIP, your duty done.
So sorry to hear about Mick, what a man, what a mucker, farewell mate your joining some great men who will keep you company and look after you now. Condolencies to Liz and Family.
Micky, I forgot what real laughter was until we met up again at Loraine Murrays 40th. Never saw you without a smile. I have visions of you dragging St Peter away from the Pearly Gates. Trip out and look at more cows through that MIRA. Miss you mate. Condolences to Liz and the rest of your family.
I was so sorry to hear the sad news of Micks passing on.
And he now joins all the other good Riflemen and Muckers of the Regiment ,at the Final RV.Our Thoughts and sincere condolences are with Liz and to all his Family. .
'Mick' Michael is my ex brother-in-law and was always one of my heros who saved me from a resident evil. He was a soldier in my heart before he became a soldier and hero in your army. I am so privileged to have known and loved him as the wonderful person you all knew. Peace and love to you all. keep the faith.
The last time I spoke to mick was when he had transfered over to the Colchester mob. I can not believe it. What a top lad Mick you will be sadly missed. God bless you mate, keep your aim true and your powder dry. Swift and Bold.
Thank you to all who have left messages here, for all the cards and good wishes and thank you especially to all those who made the journey up to Grimsby to say farewell to Mick, many travelling very long distances, I cannot thank you enough. He would have been proud to see so many of his friends and comrades who we always classed as family, be there to offer support and comfort at such a sad time.
Liz, Louise and Stewart.
