It is very sad news to hear of Cpl 'Darky' Lowe passing away, more so that he was only 5 miles away from me in Bournemouth Hospital. 

Darky Lowe was one of the Junior Rifleman's Company Corporals back in '71-'73 and I remember him being a real pleasant guy, old school NCO.  He taught us tactics and was very strict on that phase but he knew we weren't saints, he knew we would be drinking in town so he told us where not to drink and where it be unlikely we would be caught drinking as long as as we didn't get legless.........!  Yes I did and ended up in jail but as he was the gaurd Commander he put me in a cell and woke me up at 05.00 told me to clean the cell and sent me back to the Pl Lines!  First lesson PT and that was my punishment worse than being put in front of the company commander but a lot cheaper! 

God Bless Darky, you can now relax in the FRV with your muckers. Sincere condolences to his family.

So sad to hear of Darkies passing. I remeber him as a 15 year old boy soldier in the early 70's. Allways kind to us all and never as strict as the other NCO's and that is why everybody liked him. I remember when down in Tregantle Fort in Plymouth he used to teach us pot holing.

It was a great suprise when he joined us in 5 platoon B Company 2RGJ about 1973. We had some good times together. Although I have not seen him since the 70's he was the guy you will always remember such a good man he was.
