Death of Former WO2 Pete Knott, 1 - 3 & 4RGJ, with Funeral and Contact Details

I regret to inform you that Pete Knott who served with 1,3 and 4 Bns RGJ passed away on Wednesday 5th September 2012.

Please be aware of the following funeral and contact arrangements

I was saddened to hear of Pete's death and have been thinking of when I first met him.

I joined 1RGJ from the 3rd when the battalion was reduced to R Company. Sjt Knott was my trainer and corner man in the boxing team.

I was a baby sitter to Dean and he often remarked he had counted the biscuits not the beer before Les and Pete when out to the mess. Pete was so funny with a few gin and tonics. He was a good friend a mucker, I was a rifleman he a Sjt but it was always Jake and Pete. We kept in touch after we were both discharged.

A few years ago he informed he needed a transplant, we often talked while he waited for his heart transplant. He beat that problem and never looked back.

Hearing he had passed away, was a huge shock, like many before him too proud to let us know he was ill, I will remember him has he would have wanted me to. Jake take his jab then hit with your right and left hook.

RIP Pete.

Awful news about Pete, coming so close after the passing of Bomber Sheddon.

Pete was a larger than life character and part of the fabric of the 1st Bn throughout my time in it. He was a smashing chap to know and a great friend to be with. He will be sadly missed by all his old comrades and my thoughts are with his family.

This is really sad news. I served with Pete (Winkle) both with 1 GJ (43rd & 52nd), 1 RGJ and 4RGJ. He was a great character and a fine sportsman. I am proud to have served with him. My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. RIP Pete.

It was a huge shock to hear of Pete's passing, especially, as has been said so soon after Bomber. Pete was a good man had time for everyone and was always willing to help and guide those less able than himself. A sad loss to all who knew him.

It is with great sadness I read of Pete's (Winkle) passing so soon after Bomber Sheddons passing!   Two very popular members of the Regiment!   I remember Winkle from 1 Green Jackets and 1st RoyalGreen Jackets and he was a great character always willing to help or explain things to others and who will be remembered always!   My sincerre condolences to the family and friends!   RIP mucker!

Very saddened to read the news of Winkle's passing. Taught me loads in the early years of my career. Not alot of people will knoe that Pete was a good football referee amongst his other sporting acheivements.

See you on the big Wembley Winkle ,I 'll be your assistant. Not to soon though.

I am saddened to hear of Pete's death.  He was a fine man, a great Greenjacket and a good friend.  He was a great help to me when I first entered the Sgt's mes in Celle.  He was a very calming influence on a new Snr NCO who was rather hot headed at that time.

 His assistance and complete dedication to the cause was a great contribution to the 1 RGJ boxing team winning the BAOR and the The Army Inter Unit Boxing Championship.  Something that hasn't been done since.  He was an unsung hero in that in my opinion.    My condolences to his family.
