It is with regret that I announce the death of Alan Ruddock a close friend and ex member of 2RGJ. Alan passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours on Christmas morning. He had been seriously ill for ten months after suffering a massive stroke which left him severely paralysed. Alan's wife, Theresa, and their five young children would like to thank all brother Riflemen who over the past ten months, have sent cards and letters, and especially to those who went along to visit Alan in hospital. I will inform everyone of the funeral arrangements, when known.
Very sorry to hear of Alan's death, fond memories of him when we were both in A company 2 RGJ back in Germany, my thoughts are with his family at this time.
Al R.I.P. Another good one sadly taken from us,but you know Al, he will be doing three minute rounds on the bag by now and we will all have a drink for him Cheers Al
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. I spent two years as Alan,s room mate in Minden in the 80,s. We were both very young and he looked after me.
Once again may he rest in peace and watch over you.
I met Alan only the once having read about him on this site.
It was August shortly after the KRRC 250th anniversary. He was delighted with the copies of the programme and church service I had taken along.
We talked away for two or so hours (Alan had to use a keyboard to communicate and cosidering the extent of his disability he was remarkably quick) still swift and very bold.He said to me that his aim was to be home with his family for Christmas.I'm sure that strong spirit that Alan displayed to me on our meeting made it home and may it remain with you forever.
Alan and I exchanged so much information about each other and our families that I feel I've known him for years (guess thats what happens when two old riflemen get together).
The thoughts of my family and me are with Alans family at this time.God Bless You.
To Als Family my thoughts go out to you at this sad time of year, when it should bea time to enjoy. I will always remeber Al as he was part of the best 2RGJ team they ever had. He lead from the front and thats a rare quality for sucha small but big man. He was also with me in the Army boxing team for a short while and he brought a smile to evryones face on that team. I wish you and your children all the happiness in the world as you deserve it.
My condolences to Theresa and family. I served with Al in 1plt in Minden for 4 years,Al was a real character and could always make you laugh. Al,I'll raise a glass to you tonight,RIP. Tiny.
It was sad news to hear of Al's departure and when i was told on Xmas morning, i could not stop thinking of him all day. To say he had a big heart was an understatement as he never at any time showed any malice to anyone. A much respected and loved Rifleman by all who know him.

I took Al to my parents when we were in Otterburn on exercise, my mum thought Al was the bees knees and fed him til he almost burst. I had to drive the lannie back to Otterburn cos he was stuffed and wanted to sleep... note: I hadn't passed my driving test then!! Al was a really good guy and his loss is very sad.
