Death of Johnny Lloyd - Ex 2 & 3RGJ

I am sad to announce that my old pal Johnny Lloyd ex 3RGJ and 2RGJ passed away this afternoon in Bradford Royal Infirmary. John had not been well for some time and was admitted to hospital three weeks ago, after suffering a fall at home. I got to visit John yesterday (Saturday 9th). It was clear then that time was running out for him. He will be remembered as a good professional soldier, a great shot in the truest traditions of the Rifle Brigade. I will publish funeral details as soon as they are finalised.

So sad to hear of Johns passing,he was my next door neighbour in ISERLONE,and my wife did all his ironing thinking it was mine.Then all the times we spent cleaning his gun collection.Rest in peace John, take a break,condolences to the family and friends,GOD BLESS.

Extremely sorry to hear about John he lived next door to me in Munster (2RGJ). A great shot and a great Green jacket he will be missed by all that knew him.My condolences to his family.

John's funeral will take place on Friday 22nd February at 1100hrs. It will be at Rawdon Crematorium, Leeds road, Rawdon, Near Leeds, LS19 6JP. A reception will be held after the funeral at The Lane Ends Hotel, 161 Norman Lane, Eccleshill, Bradford, BD2 2JT. Diane has asked for family flowers only. She has also asked that instead of flowers, should anyone wish to, a donation be made to to the Intensive Care Unit, at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Very sad news, I took over from John in the School of Infantry , (and from recall think this was his final posting) , he was well respected and bordering on a legend as a shot and such a nice man , condolences to friends and family

 I am so sorry to hear about my old mate and partner in crime from my days in the COP.

John was a true professional and a good Green Jacket , I am sure all the old platoon will agree. So long mate

I attended John's funeral yesterday, along with John Lloyd jnr (ex 3RGJ), Pat and Brenda Veasey and Mark and Mary Lydiatt. It was a sad occassion of course but it went well and we, along with family and friends did our duty in the pub afterwards. John would have liked it.

Very sorry to hear about Johnny passing on.  I was about to send Seamus Lyons a photograph of Johnny dragging a 'rioter' up a street in Londonderry (I think it was Londonderry) by the scruff of the kneck - Johnny was doing his job to the full and ignoring the danger surrounding him.  He was a true soldier - a Royal Green Jacket - with a good sense of humour.

I shall still send the photograph for insertion in the archives; it will be a reminder for years to come of Johnny doing his duty to the utmost.

God bless you, Johnny, we shall all meet sometime at the last RV.

My brother John told me that Colin Payne had put a notice on the RGJ website so I thought I would have a look to see what has been written.   Thank you all for your messages and kind words; it is a great comfort.

My Dad was a soldier through and through and the army was his life.  He would be very proud to read all your comments, as am I.

We will be holding a small service in August in Jersey (the place my Dad considered home) so I will ask Colin to post details incase any of you fancy an excuse for a few days in Jersey.
