When I was in JR Coy in the very early 70's you were in trg company and I thought then as I do now you were great, a real proper role model but I could never reach your standards. At that time you were knocking around with Eddie Edwards, another superb person. Fortunately, I then met Joe and the both of you were superb soldiers and outstanding leaders of men. You are both together probably having a good giggle together with your sense of humour. You will be missed by many especially Norma.
God Bless George and Norma, George's Green Jacket Family are close by if you ever need anything.
So sorry to hear of Georges passing, such a nice man and a very good rifleman. We both were in " S " Company ay Moyard Camp in the 70s. When we last met we had a lot to talk about. Rest in peace old friend. My deepest condolences to Norma and Family.
Was re-reading the tributes to George, and this came to mind... it was written for soldiers of a former time, but could have been written for George or any of our departed Riflemen..
We caught the torch you threw, And holding high we kept The faith with those who died. We cherish too, the poppy red That grows on fields where valour led....
It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies....
I'm just glad that George and Norma were at or Borneo bash in August meeting so many old and dear friends. George had a terrific way about him, allways happy to see you and so full of enthusiasm. We had a great time, the Worlds a duller place without him.
George was my sec comm on the 73 tour, I always had the greatest respect and admiration for his professionalism and outlook on life,as we all say sorry I never kept in touch until it,s to late. Still I have my memories,so long George a true mate and gent. Billy Buchanan
We are both saddened to hear of the death of George. We were lucky to have known him for so many years and to have enjoyed his friendship, company and humour.
Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone.
It was with shock and deep sadness that I heard of the death of George. We were both young Riflemen in 11 platoon during those exciting but challenging days in Borneo. In Kenny Grays section we would partner up on patrol; when I on was stag he would cook my meal, and when he was on stag I would cook his. His humour, toughness and fortitude shone through even in those days.
We later served together in the Signals Pl 3RGJ in Germany when he was my APC driver, although it did cost me a fine when I commanded him over two weapons.
Later we served in the same training team at the Rifle Depot where his personal high standards were an example to our recruits.
I consider it an honour to have known and served with George. He will be missed by many.
Although regretably late, my sincere condolences to Norma and family.
