This is to inform everyone of the death of my father, Brian 'Mac' Mackriell on the 3rd March 2006.
He was a Green Jacket through and through from 1964 as a junior soldier going on to run a climbing/abseiling school in Bristol and Bovey Tracey, serve in HK and NI as well as running the BATC in Germany before returning for his final year in Winchester in 1989, when he left.
He stayed in Winchester until his death and was preceded by his wife, Anne, who died in 2001.
A funeral service was held at St Peters Church in Winchester and he was buried at Magdalen Hill Cemetry afterwards.
I knew your Dad in the early 70's as he took me and many other jnr soldiers on many a good adventurre trg weekend. We all enjoyed ourselves and this was down to your Dad being so enthusiastic.
Sorry to hear about your father. We were at school together and while everyone else hadn't a clue what we were going to do he did. When the carreers bloke came visiting he said "Im going to be a soldier".
Must run in the family as a few years later elder brother Roger enlisted me into A coy 4(v)RGJ in Oxford
Jason, So very sorry to hear of you fathers death, He was my First Plt Sjt when i was sent to 1 RGJ 9Plt C Coy. I remember he invited me to your house to share christmas with your family I was only 17 1/2 at the time and it was my first time away from home. I'll never forget the time the CSM told the company that they could finish early on a friday. When Mac was asked what he was going to do he said,"I'm taking the Plt up Stanley mount then they can have the week end off. You should of seen our faces. Still your dad led us from the front encouraging us up that bloody hill. A top man and a top Rifleman he will be sadley missed.
I am sorry to have not commented on your fathers passing sooner. Mac was my first Platoon Sgt on arrival in Hong Kong on '78. A humerous, honest and loyal man who held my utmost respect from the moment I met him - I am saddened by his passing. Love and best wishes to you
