I'm sorry to say that a fellow Rifleman has passed away, Mick (Ginger) Mangles 1RGJ. He died yesterday afternoon of Cancer.
His Funeral will take place at Basingstoke Crematorium on Thursday 10th August at 1015 hrs.
Angela (Mick wife) and family have said anyone that wishes to attend the Funeral are most welcome. All she asks, please don't bring any flowers, if you like to give a donation please give it to the Magpie cancer appeal at the Winchester Royal Hosptial, who looked after Mick in his last few days before he passed away.
So sorry and sad to hear of Ginger's passing away. I served many years alongside Ginger in 1RGJ and got to know him well. When he was on the RP's, I spent my early years trying to avoid him and later, had much contact with him in the Serjeants Mess, particularly in Hong Kong. His sense of humour always shone through in everything he did and he could be relied upon in every kind of situation. He was a Chosen Man through and through and a stalwart of 1RGJ. Gone, but not forgotten. My thoughts and condolences are with his family. I will try to attend the funeral.
My sincere condolences to Micks family at this loss. Another outstanding Rifleman leaves us to join the many already departed. I first met him when I joined the 1st Bn in Celle 1970 and he left a lasting impression of what being a Rifleman was all about. Always remembered.
Rest well and easy among the other `Chosen men`Mick.
Very sad to see Ginger has passed on, we were in the same Training Plt at the Depot he went to 43rd 52nd i went to R.B. but im sure he started with the R.B.'s first i have clear memories of us along with the Pay Clerk colecting the Pay from the Midland Bank in Winchester High street, we did'nt have a care in the world there was only three of us in an open back Land Rover there was me saying what a good number this Duty is and him there with that big smile Winchester was quiet then, i wonder how they collect the pay now? we had to do that more than once.
deepest sympathy to gingers family I first met ginge in Celle as a young nig on jankers when he was a R. P. and certainly over my years with the Battalion got to know him very what a sad loss he was one of the good guys A CHOSEN MAN rest in peace my old mucker
On the lost of a good mate and friend, i joined the Battalion of the CHOSEN MAN in hong kong, from the depot in winchester and i can say its was people like ginger that open my eyes to the real life within the regiment. i'm also sorry i will not beable to attend the Funeral which in away i'm glad as my late time with ginger was last year march past which we both injoyed.
The last time i saw ginger was back in June this year as aways smiling. he will be sadley missed. From Martin Barnes Ex 1RGJ. My thoughts and condolences are with you and your family.
First met Mick in Celle,Last saw him in Hong Kong, Another good Green Jacket gone but alway's will be remembered. My Condolences to his family. R.I.P. MICK
Very sad occasion today at Basingstoke as about 20 of us from the Regiment, paid our last respects to Ginger, along with his family. Ginger was 23 years a Greenjacket and we are the poorer for his passing.
He will be sadly missed by his family and it was clear at the service that he was a much loved Grandad.
If there is any comfort to be taken from a comrades passing, it is perhaps in this: The knowledge that he was at the centre of a loving and close family who thought the world of him. And Ginger was.
I spoke briefly with Angela his wife and Iain his son-in-law,who would like me to pass on their thanks to all from the Regiment that attended.
I know that tomorrow, Friday 11th, another of our number will be laid to rest in Durham. I didn't know Vic but he and his family will be in my thoughts.
